The Invention of Morel
As my first truly conceptual piece, I redesigned the book The Invention of Morel to fit my evaluation of the short novel. I created a method in which each page had a Morse code letter carved into the paper, revealing "What Is Future, There is no Present." By doing so, the pages reveal what is further on in the book by looking through the holes onto future pages, as well as back when you turn the page, thus making there no present while reading the book: not much unlike the main character of the story who slowly goes crazy. I cut each letter by hand (save for the laser-cut book cover) so many times that I was able to create the accompanying video, which plays a musical version of the Morse code in the background. In addition to the book design and accompanying media project, our final included a custom poster for our fictitious gallery debut.
